Biography

B. Wayne Bequette

Dr. Bequette worked for three years as a process engineer for American Petrofina between his undergraduate and graduate studies. From 1986 to 1987 he was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Texas and from 1987 to 1988 he was a Visiting Lecturer with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California at Davis. He joined the Rensselaer faculty in 1988, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 and Professor in 2000. Dr. Bequette was on sabbatical leave during the 1995-6 academic year, spending the fall semester at Merck Research Laboratories and the spring at Northwestern University.

Dr. Bequette is an Associate Editor for Automatica (a journal of the International Federation of Automatic Control). He served as Finance Chair, Publications Chair and Publicity Chair for the 1991 (Boston), 1995 (Seattle) and 1998 (Philadelphia) American Control Conferences, respectively. He is the Program Chair for the 2001 American Control Conference (Washington, D.C.), and the General Chair of the 2003 American Control Conference (Denver, CO).

Dr. Bequette is the author of "Process Dynamics: Modeling, Analysis and Simulation", published by Prentice Hall (1998). He is writing a textbook on Model-based Process Control, also to be published by Prentice Hall. He currently advises ten graduate students on fundamental and applied research topics in process control, design and operations.
